Natural Stone Landing Steps - Stone Landings for Entrances, Stairs & Landscaping in Ontario
The landing is the moment between movements – the pause at the top of a staircase, the platform where a path changes direction, the flat surface that anchors an entrance and invites someone to stop before they step inside.
Get it wrong and it looks like an afterthought. Get it right and it defines the entire approach to your home.
Natural stone landing steps from Worldwide Stone are cut from real quarried stone – solid, heavy, and built to carry the full weight of foot traffic and Ontario winters without shifting, cracking, or losing their character. Whether you’re finishing a front entrance, building an intermediate platform between stair flights, or creating a level resting point along a garden pathway, our landing steps are sized and specified to do the job properly.
Available in four standard size configurations – 24×48, 24×72, 36×48, and 36×72 – two thicknesses (6″ and 7″), and two colours (Grey and Slate Grey), with custom colours and sizes available on request. See how our stone looks in real installations across Ontario homes and commercial projects.

A Landing That Holds Its Ground - Through Every Ontario Winter
Natural stone landing steps from Worldwide Stone are 6 to 7 inches thick, freeze-thaw resistant, and cut to carry consistent foot traffic for decades. No cracking, no settling, no seasonal maintenance. Just solid stone that looks better the longer it sits.
Why Natural Stone Steps Are Worth It
The Structural Piece Most Projects Get Wrong
Four Size Configurations for Every Entrance
Built for Ontario's Freeze-Thaw Winters
A landing takes everything the staircase takes – plus it holds standing water and snow longer than a sloped step surface. That makes freeze-thaw resistance even more critical for landing stones than for treads. Our landing steps are cut to 6″ and 7″ thickness in dense natural stone that handles repeated freeze-thaw cycling without cracking, heaving, or surface spalling. This is what contractors across Ontario specify for exterior landings that need to last.
One Solid Piece - Not an Assembly
The difference between a landing built from multiple pavers and a landing built from a single stone slab is immediately visible. Multiple pieces mean visible joints, potential for differential settling, and a surface that reads as built-up rather than placed. A single natural stone landing piece reads as intentional and solid – because it is. Pair it with our natural stone steps for a fully matched staircase and landing build.

Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Stone Landing Steps
What is a stone landing step?
A stone landing step is a large, flat stone slab used as a platform at the top, bottom, or midpoint of a staircase. Unlike a standard stair tread – which is narrow and angled – a landing is a full horizontal surface that provides a stable, level stopping point. It’s used to change stair direction, allow stairs to rest between flights, or create a formal entrance platform at the base or top of a staircase.
What is a stone landing step?
We supply landing steps in four standard configurations: 24×48, 24×72, 36×48, and 36×72. Thickness is available in 6″ and 7″. Custom sizes are available on request – contact our team with your exact dimensions and we’ll advise on what’s possible.
What's the difference between a 6″ and 7″ thick landing step?
Both thicknesses provide solid structural performance for standard residential and commercial foot traffic. The 7″ thickness offers additional mass and is typically specified for larger entrance platforms, higher-use applications, or projects where the visual weight and presence of the stone is part of the design intent. For most residential landings, 6″ is a strong and practical choice.
Can natural stone landing steps handle Ontario winters?
Yes – and this is one of the primary reasons contractors and builders in Ontario specify natural stone for exterior landings. Dense, thick-cut natural stone handles freeze-thaw cycling reliably without cracking or heaving. Landings are particularly exposed to standing water and snow melt, which makes freeze-thaw resistance more important here than almost anywhere else on an exterior staircase.
What colours are available for landing steps?
Our standard colour range for landing steps includes Grey and Slate Grey. Both are available in all four size configurations and both thicknesses. Custom colours are available on request – contact us to discuss options beyond our standard range.
Can I use a landing step for a front entrance?
Absolutely. Front entrance landings are one of the most common applications for this product. A large-format natural stone landing – particularly in the 36×72 size – creates a substantial, welcoming platform at the front door that anchors the entire entrance design. Pair it with our natural stone steps for a fully coordinated staircase and landing build, and natural stone pier caps at the gate pillars for a complete entrance finish.
How are natural stone landing steps installed?
Landing steps are set on a compacted granular base with a full mortar bed beneath the stone. The slab must be bedded completely level – any rocking or hollow spots will cause cracking over time under foot traffic load. Mortar joints at the perimeter should be tooled and sealed to prevent water ingress beneath the slab. Given the size and weight of landing slabs, professional installation by an experienced mason or landscaping contractor is strongly recommended.
Are landing steps slippery when wet?
Natural finish stone provides a textured surface with reasonable grip in wet conditions – significantly better than polished stone or smooth concrete. For entrance landings that will be exposed to rain or snow melt, the natural finish is the correct specification. Avoid polished finishes on any exterior horizontal surface.
Do natural stone landing steps need to be sealed?
Sealing is not structurally necessary but is recommended for entrance landings exposed to heavy foot traffic, road salt, or organic staining from nearby garden beds. A breathable, penetrating stone sealer applied after installation extends the clean appearance of the stone surface and makes routine cleaning easier. Use a sealer rated for exterior natural stone. Our team can advise on appropriate products when you place your order.
Can I order custom colours or sizes for landing steps?
Yes. Our standard range covers Grey and Slate Grey across four size configurations, but custom colours and sizes are available on request. If you’re working to a specific design brief or your project dimensions fall outside standard sizes, contact our team directly to discuss what’s possible.
